Pour ritual: Architects turn over a new leaf
Česká Lípa, Czech Republic – Czech practice A1 Architects has designed a teahouse on the edge of a family estate that celebrates the ritual of tea drinking.
The Black Teahouse was built using natural and sustainable materials, such as clay, bamboo and burned timber, designed to make the construction merge with the surrounding landscape. Large open entrances encircle the structure, offering views of the nearby lake and forest and creating an airy, unimposing interior.
A large teapot hangs on rope from the ceiling, and is lowered into a recessed hearth set into the floor. The pot acts as a focal point for the teahouse, encouraging interaction and the ritual of pouring.
LS:N Global’s forthcoming drinks report, coming soon to The Future Laboratory’s online shop, will further explore changing attitudes and rituals related to beverage consumption.
